Call for Abstracts

As the ATRF Scientific Committee is now fully engaged in reviewing all submitted ATRF full papers, we are now calling for abstract proposals for the Transport Knowledge Conference (TKC) to be presented on 18 November 2025.

If you are interested in submitting an abstract, please note that it has a limit of 1,000 characters (or 150 words), and we are seeking presentation of work that aligns with the conference theme and any of the four sub-themes. Each sub-theme includes suggested subtopics (see drop-down menu on the right) that reflect current research gaps and opportunities for advancing theory, evidence, and practice in transport policy and planning. No paper submission is required for TKC presentations.

The Transport Knowledge Conference abstracts will be evaluated based on their alignment with the conference theme and sub-themesoriginalitymethodological quality and practical relevance.

The abstract portal is now open for submissions until 18 July 2025.

Ready to Sumit?

The abstract submission portal is hosted on EventsAir platform and managed by the University of Auckland Events Services. Please follow the instructions in the portal.

The Future of Transport: Balancing Affordability and Innovation for All

Submit abstracts for oral presentations on topics related to the four sub-themes:

Transport Funding and Financing
  • Long-term fiscal sustainability of transport infrastructure funding under economic and demographic uncertainty.
  • Socioeconomic and spatial distributional impacts of transport funding mechanisms.
  • Equity and efficiency trade-offs in user-pays mechanisms (eg road or congestion pricing).
  • Comparing VFM, risk-sharing, and transparency of PPPs and other financing approaches.
  • Uptake, effectiveness, and limitations of innovative funding tools.
Transport as an Enabler
  • Systemic approaches to evaluating transport’s enabling role across sectors and policy domains.
  • Transport’s role in improving access to jobs, education, healthcare, and social services.
  • Impacts of transport and housing on affordability, accessibility, and spatial equity.
  • Transport’s contribution to enabling a low-emissions economy and climate resilience.
  • Transport as an enabler of cultural and community wellbeing.
  • Addressing transport disadvantages (eg in rural, remote, and underserved communities).
Transport Modelling, Appraisal, and Evaluation
  • Dynamic, spatial, and behavioural approaches to travel demand and network modelling.
  • Advancing economic appraisal methods and frameworks.
  • Ex-post evaluation of transport projects and programmes.
  • Transparency, reproducibility, and open-source practices in transport modelling and appraisal.
  • Challenges in modelling emerging modes (e.g. shared mobility, automation, remote work) and behaviours.
Transport Performance and Efficiency
  • Measuring system productivity and cost-effectiveness across modes and movement types.
  • Benchmarking of transport system or agency performance.
  • Trade-offs between efficiency, reliability, and resilience in multimodal networks.
  • Linking performance metrics to user outcomes.
  • Institutional and regulatory enablers of continuous performance improvement.
  • Using performance data to support decision-making and investment prioritisation.
  • Applying new metrics to track systems performance management and improvements.
